WTF???

I just can't believe that there are people dying out there because of some stupid cartoons.

I didn't even remotely get it until I read some fellow comparing it to jokes about the holocaust. On one hand, if the Washington Post put out a special issue dedicated to jokes about the holocaust, you'd be sure that there'd be a massive outcry.

On the other hand, I seriously doubt that there would be people burning down embassies and calling for death to all Americans. It's a shame because the guys that get the biggest shaft are the majority moderate Muslims who will be found guilty by association.

For the record, I think that protesters in democracies who call for violence as we have seen should be jailed. Most charter of rights allow for freedom of speech but hold speakers accountable for their content.

Here's what our charter has to say about freedom of expression:

Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
a) freedom of conscience and religion;
b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
d) freedom of association.

Here's what our criminal code has to say about hate crimes:

R.S., c. 11(1st Supp.), s. 1.

Public incitement of hatred
319. (1) Every one who, by communicating statements in any public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of

(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or

(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.

Wilful promotion of hatred
(2) Every one who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of

(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or

(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction

So some Muslims might counter that those cartoons incite hatred and violence. I've seen them, I just think they're lame and weak and frankly not even remotely offensive compared to anything you'd see on South Park.

Here's Mohammad and Jesus from "The Super Best Friends" epsiode

And for the record, Mohammed has been portrayed many times in history by Muslims and Infidels alike.

Hate south park and what it teaches the youth of tomorrow. A major set back in unity. Hate the Simpson's just as much. If people are worried about a few cartoons, they should look no further then thier own television sets. American TV shows are a breeding ground for hatred and amoral behaviour. Land of the free..sure. I get the whole free speech allowence, but can't all the left wing zealots shut thier traps on occasion.
