On one hand, the Danish newspaper that printed those cartoons that have caused this new uproar by Muslims all over the world, clearly was meant to provoke a strong and violent response. On the other, it did exactly what it was supposed to do, root out fanaticism. I think that they got what they wanted.
I definitely don't think that it's a good idea to insult other people's religions or is it especially smart to provoke sensitive issues like that but I think what they did was interesting but stupid (despite their apologies).
This guy seems to make the most sense:
"The protests in the Middle East have proven that the cartoonist was right," said Tarek Fatah, a director of the Muslim Canadian Congress.
"It's falling straight into that trap of being depicted as a violent people and proving the point that, yes, we are."
Then again, this set of cartoons by Byorn Davis is far more offensive.
